Family History in Tazewell County, VA

I found a book at my parents house by the Tazewell County Historical Society which details my family's history in Tazewell County, VA (Book Order Form). Of course I found this information very interesting so you can find an excerpt below.

After his father, a Confederate soldier, had died of wounds suffered toward the end of the Civil War, John Herald married Hallie Jane Mulkey and continue to operate a farm in Thompson Valley, Tazewell County, Virginia. There they raised their seven boys and five girls...

John Herald, Sr., died at home following a protracted illness in 1927.  Fire destroyed the original farmhouse in 1935.  A smaller house was built for Hallie Jane (born July 20, 1848) and she died at home in 1937.  Both are buried in the family cemetery on the farm.  John and Hallie Jane Herald's twelve children brought them sixty grandchildren.

Today, although a number of Herald grandchildren and great-grandchildren still live in the Tazewell County area, many more live throughout the United States.
